Special celebrations still deserve a hand-written card even that it would be more eco-friendly to go paperless. Especially if they are as gorgeous and sustainable like the designs by upstate New York based Smock. This year Smock launched a sustainable card series where 100% of profits are donated to help protect our planet. The first sustainable folded card with matching envelope of the newly launched series features a pretty sunflower, bee, and honeycomb design in blues and golden yellows. The contemporary design is letterpressed on bamboo paper. Organic and locally grown sunflower seeds are included to be planted. It’s a fun way to create awareness for our endangered honeybees and shows that you can help. 100% of profits from the cards go to the Pesticide Action Network. I’ve featured sustainable clothes or furniture made of bamboo before since the rapidly renewable resource has many eco-friendly qualities. It grows without pesticides or fertilizers and needs very little water. Smock teamed up with a 500-year-old European paper mill to create their luxurious bamboo paper and offers
many cute designs for any occasion such as thank yous, anniversaries, or birthdays. Other sustainable goods include beautifully designed gift wrap and notebooks printed on 100% post-consumer recycled, FSC certified paper. All of Smock’s printing uses vegetable-oil based and low-VOC inks as well as low VOC and citrus based solvents. The entire production is wind-powered and Smock offers their employees public bus passes to encourage mass transit. Kind of like a big thank you card to mother nature.
